Background

The Annual Air Quality Monitoring Network Plan describes the network of ambient air quality monitors located within the South Coast AQMD's four-county jurisdiction [click here to view map (PDF, 455kb)].  The Plan includes a review of actions taken during the previous fiscal year, and outlines plans for action in the year ahead.

Federal regulations require that the air quality monitoring network be reviewed annually to identify any need for additions, relocations, or terminations of monitoring sites or instrumentation.  After a 30-day comment period, the Plan is submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) by July 1 of each year.

Five Year Air Monitoring Network Assessment

Background
A periodic network assessment of the South Coast AQMD ambient air monitoring network is required as a key tool to help ensure that criteria pollutants are measured in important locations and that monitoring resources are used in the most effective and efficient manner to meet the needs of multiple stakeholders.  Network assessments are required every five years at a minimum to determine if the network meets monitoring objectives defied in Title 40, Part 58 Appendix D of the code of Federal Regulations.
