Rule 1193 - Clean On-Road Residential and Commercial Refuse Collection Vehicles

Public and Private Solid Waste Collection Fleets

For public and private solid waste collection fleets, this rule requires fleet operators to acquire alternative-fuel refuse collection heavy-duty vehicles when procuring these vehicles for use within the South Coast AQMD's jurisdiction.

  1. This rule applies to:

  • Government agencies that operate solid waste collection fleets with 15 or more solid waste collection vehicles

  • Private entities that operate solid waste collection fleets with 15 or more solid waste collection vehicles

  1. This rule shall not apply to vehicles or services pursuant to paragraph (e).

Natural Gas-Powered Refuse Vehicle Users Group/Rule 1193 Implementation Workgroup

The Users Group provides a forum between refuse fleet vehicle maintenance staff and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to discuss issues associated with the deployment of natural gas-powered refuse vehicles.
